A teraz zaczynajmy!

Treść

– There will be no discussion! – the duke yelled at the squadron commander who disappeared hurriedly behind the door to the chamber after saluting his master.
– What is your interest in moving such mighty part of your men to the south? – asked an old man in an embroidered gown.
– Father, you stopped ruling these lands long time ago…
– Thus, does it mean I cannot utter a word of counsel?
– No, it means I do control the situation. But fine, I will show you something, however it is going to require you moving your old bones. – the duke finished smiling to his father. After that they left the old garrison and waited until the carriage was ready. It was a beautiful vehicle made of fine, dark wood. The coachman led two stallions that seemed eager to take them wherever they wanted. The inside was comfortable and dim; the best place to sit when the sun is scorching outside.

– Break words, lad. – the old man started the conversation, smirking.
– Ha, you are curious, indeed.
– Who wouldn’t be? I keep my fingers crossed for my son who rules the lands I used to rule myself.
– I understand that well enough. Long story short: there is a movement not far away from Koszyce.
– How can you know that? It is a three-day-ride from Bielsk!
– I will show it to you right now. – said the duke, and they both left the carriage after he had halted the horses with a single « PRRRR ».

They were now on a hill looking at a vast montanous region. The view was amazing thanks to the weather and the clear blue sky.
– Visibility is outstanding. Can you see Babia Mountain over there? – asked the Duke.
– Of course I can see it! Hardly, but yes.
– How long a man on a horseback would have to ride to reach its bottom?
– From dawn just until dusk.
– Then how fast can you see it?
– What can I see? Babia? It’s right over there!
– So, immediately.
– Yes, why?
– Look father. Four days ride from here in the surroundings of Koszyce a small army regroups and their intents are not clear at all. – the duke suddenly spoke in a strange, calm tone and the old man looked at him cautiously. After a pause he continued: – On each summit I had put an eremite devoted to me. They start the bonfires using multiple different substances, so they colour the flames into green or red or blue or white. This way they send us their message and give a warning from far away. And it works swiftly.
